I live in the USA near Canada and have a Canadian bank account in Canadian dollars. I would like to open a Canadian dollar Paypal account and move some Canadian dollars from my Canadian bank account into the CDN $ Paypal account . How can this be accomplished?

you are in USA.and so your Paypal account is in US dollars, you can go into your financial profile and add that you accept Canadian dollars and want to keep payments as Canadian dollars, then your US paypal account will have 2 balances, one in US and one in Canadian $.
But I dont think you can link your CaNADIAN bank account to your US Paypal account.
If youmove to CANADA,open a Canadian based Paypal account, you can link both US and Canadian bank accounts/
but if you do not intend to move to Canada, you have to find a way to transfer Canadian dollars to your US Paypal account and keep them as Canadian dollar.
One way to do that is to give the money to your friend in Canada, ask him to send it to you via friend and family ,then voila, you have Canadian money in your US pAPAL account/
but if you ever want to transfer these Canadian dollars to your US bank account, you pay 3% conversion fee.

what do you get out of linking your Canadian bank account or keeping Canadian dollars in your US Paypal account?
ifyou buy something online from a Canadian website, you can pay with your Canadian dollars.
but ifyou are in Canada and want to use your Paypal account or Payal business debit card,I think Paypal would not draw on your Canadian balance, there is no feature in Paypal which allow you to specify that.Paypal could take you US fund ,convert it to Canadian dollars at a fee of 3% and pay your merchant.

Thanks, Whac-a-mole. The scenarios that you graciously drew are not going to work for my needs. Too many work arounds, and in the end, PayPal may even convert US Dollars for a transaction in Canada meant to use Canadian dollars.
My stepson lives in Montreal. What about if I were to use his address for my Canadian residence when in Canada, which is accurate. Could I open a Canadian PayPal account then, and fund from my Canadian bank?

yes,you can open a Canadian PAYPAL account using your son in law's Canadian address and link both US and Canadian bank accounts .
But I dont know if Paypal will ask you for any proof of residence or citizenship/resident,there are some threads now on this forum of Canadians saying the goverment want something from them, ithink it has to do with tax.
In some cases, paypal account holders have been asked for proof of address by showing utility bill in their name, driver license,
also your credit card cannot be linked t o more than one Paypal account,so if you want a card t o be linked to your Canadian Paypal account, you have to remove it first from your US account.
