I have confirmed that my email is correct in my profile and I have since added a secondary email but I cannot get rid of the pesky notification telling me that my email is out of date. What am I missing here?

Yes. I confirmed the 2nd email as well. Still can't clear the notification message. Very odd. It's driving my OCD nature crazy.
It happens. Hit the "Login to Ask the community" button to create a question for the PayPal community.
