Trouble raising withdrawal limits. Says SSN already in use.

I've had an account for a bit over 2 years, and have not had withdrawal limits for about 2 of those. In the last week or so a $500.00 monthly withdrawal limit has been placed on my account. Today I tried to raise the limit by confirming my SSN (which has been on my account for 2 years or so). Here's the response I got:

"The Social Security number that you have entered is assigned to another PayPal Personal account. You may register your Social Security number with only one PayPal Personal Account and only one PayPal Business or Premier account."

I have no other paypal accounts, nor have I had any in the past.

How do I get the limit off again? Why was it placed on my account?

Here's an update.

I sent an email request (a simple copy of my first post) to the paypal "help desk" and received this reply:

"Thank you for inquiring as to how to restore access to your account.

PayPal is constantly working to ensure security by regularly screening the accounts in our system. We recently reviewed your account and need more information to help us provide you with secure service. Until we can collect this information, your access to sensitive account features will be limited.

To return your account to regular standing, please complete the checklist items indicated when you login to your account and click on the link provided on the "Account Overview" page.

The link will appear as: "Your account access is limited: Click here for Details."

Once you complete all of the checklist items, our Account Review team will review your case and send you an email with the outcome of the review. Cases are reviewed in the order they are received.

We regret any inconvenience, and we would like to restore your access as soon as possible.

Please do not respond to this email, as responses to this message will not be answered.

Sincerely,

PayPal Account Review Team"

This reply was almost instantaneous, and as you can see, wasn't to the point. It may be that I didn't pick the correct answers to the very general questions I was asked before being allowed to post my specific question, and so my query was replied to with the incorrect auto-answer.

That was a bit frustrating.

So, I called the paypal help line. I was quickly directed to an associate, Darlene. Darlene checked a few details to confirm I was who I said I was then looked up my account. She never did tell me what had happened but quickly agreed that the new withdrawal limit was not needed as I had already jumped through all the appropriate hoops. Within ten minutes she had the limit lifted.

Thanks, Darlene!
