hello Paypal community!
I was wondering if there was a way to switch your "real name" from showing up on the shipping address-(to: sellers), and instead have your IDname-(buyer's info) displayed when they receive your payment.
Or if you're trying to keep your personal information private, is that possible, and if so, how could I do that?
thanks ahead of time

Per the Privacy Policy, your name appears mostly for verification purposes, as well as for the post office. A good example of this is imagining the Smith family. John Smit has two email addresses. The first is one he uses for PayPal and is johnsmith. His wife, Jane, uses his other email address for her PayPal account, which is john.smith. Someone sending Jane money may forget the period by accident and send it to her husband John. In this case, everything ends up okay thanks to luck. However, in practice, such a simple thing can have someone named Mike Smith getting the money, because Mike goes by his middle name everywhere although his email contains his first and last name instead. Add this in to the fact PayPal doesn't have User IDs and you could have a conundrum where people use lowercase L's to mimic a capital I or so on and so forth. Now, with that being said, I believe the only exception involves businesses, which can have their business name display in place of a personal name on their shipping address, but I'm not entirely sure this is the case.

@EULAgyOK I can understand a bit from where you're coming from. My issue lies in, if that little mistake is a big concern as far as where the money goes to (missing a . in the name, I instead of L...etc) then why even have a user ID as an option in the first place?
With that being said, if paypal is famous for hidding your "personal information" (CC, bank accounts...) then your REAL NAME vs. a User ID, is defeating the purpose don'tcha think??
The whole purpose of having an ID, is to keep your identity anonymous, or hidden. So Joe Shmoe across the world doesn't know your real name...that to me sounds like a big security/identity issue. Just like famous YouTubers...or other apps and social media...BUT the big difference with those programs, is even when you are purchasing something from them, you are getting charged by your ID name not any other way. For example, Xbox, if I wanted to buy extra lives on a game, I would be purchasing them with my gaming ID, sure if you link your CC number, the company gets your information, but then the other players don't find out your real identity. That's how I see that PayPal should be working. Whoever you are purchasing items with (let's say off of ebay or amazon), you receive an email notification from the seller saying: "Thank-you buyer (real name) for your purchase.." what?!?!?! how did you get my real name you creep? I am just not ok with that....JS No bueno!!

@EULAgy Oh yes I almost forgot...usually another big reason why they have ID names and Real Names:
your ID is usually used to be able to leave comments or reviews on the website, at the same time, keeping your true identity hidden and only granted to the "company" as far as for payment purposes. For example, if I were to purchase a DVD/movie online, watched it, then most people would expect for you to leave a review for the quality of the DVD (for seller's rating), and/or leave a comment of your opinion on the movie itself. All this feedback, is done with a User ID, while still maintaining your identity private.
My reason for such concern, is mainly due to the fact that there are some bad people out in the world, and if by some horrible reason, a seller so happens to live close to you, and dislikes a review that you posted for them (or whatever grinned their gears at that moment in time) they have not only your real name but also your address. What if they come destroying your property, or come find you and do some threatening acts. I know this might be a little exaggerated, but possible.

While certainly possible given the bredth of the population that uses PayPal, keep in mind these are financial transactions, and PayPal protects your personal financial information, only handing out the shipping address and name supplied by yourself. Being a payment processor, the need for user IDs isn't really there, however, wherever you buy the item from (eBay, for instance) may use them for those purposes. But keep in mind the finance world is something totally different from a marketplace too. After all, you don't use a User ID on your checks do you? Nor does a Debit/credit card run from a fictituous name (legally, anyways).
Anything past that would be petty, and most people wouldn't risk a tie up with the Police, or worse, over a single bad review.
