Adding a non-USA phone number

I am a United States citizen currently living in Swaziland due to my wife's work for our Embassy here. PayPal's settings will not accept the cell phone number I use here as it is not formatted like US phone numbers. I need this to be my primary number for at least the next couple of years until we leave Africa. Can anyone help?

Paypal is country specific so if you move country you have to open another paypal account in that country and add an address / phone number / and bank accounts from within that country.

The only exception is U.S users can add their bank accounts to other countries paypal accounts.

This is a nightmare for some like myself who are traveling for extended periods of time (2 months) and need to regularly use the U.S.-based PayPal account, but have taken a local cell phone while traveling.

I just got locked out and don't have access to my U.S. cell phone number (hotswapping SIM cards myself isn't exactly an option on my phone) -- and PayPal offices aren't open right now, in my time zone.

There really needs to be a better system for this!
