The Collecting Depot

Looking at purchasing Polaris Rzr off of a seller on Craigslist. Wanted to drive down to view the unit but seller says it is in the hands of a place called The Collecting depot. So in order for me to purchase this item I have to pay The Collecting Depot and they will pay the seller and ship the ATV to me. If the ATV is not what was described by the seller I have 10 days to get a full refund and shpping is the sellers responsibility. Anyone ever use this service or is this a scam. Really not comfortable buying something by only seeing pics of item. Any advise

All of their locations are self storage units. Their "flagship" branch is Sunnyvale Self Storage" there is no collecting depot signage anywhere. It doesnt exist. It is an enigma wrapped in a riddle backed by one big scam. Look at all the locations on google earth. Count how many collecting depot signs you see. The only collecting this depot is doing is your money when you wire it out of the country.

I agree. Nice work on the research. The Collecting Depot is a SCAM. Stay away!!!! They don't even have a phone number to contact them. So if you wanted to get your money back with their 10 day money back guarantee what do you? Send them a Email and hope for the best. Ya Right.

Yep, this is a scam.  I reversed the address in lexington Ky and it goes to a storagemart and the manager had no idea what the collecting depot is.  I told her about the address and gave her the website so her corp office could investigate.  The GA location has a disco number.

All the people profiled on their page also have no LINKEDIN profile.   Highly unlikley!!! lol

The Collecting Depot can kiss my **bleep**.

(Although I did not fall for anything)

This is the craiglist link I was inquiring about.  http://greenville.craigslist.org/boa/3954948460.html

How should I let craigslist know it's a scam?  I tried to flag it but it's still there after 8 hours.

Anybody who wires, sends, mails anything to this fictitious company has been warned. I have nothing to gain by telling you this outside of trying to protect you from this scam. Lets face it, the websight is beautiful. Has all the bells and whistles that you would want to see from any legitimate company. Nice pictures, beautiful layout. It is all smoke and mirrors. your argument says to make sure you veriify everything with the seller. Sure as long as there is no verbal communication and it is all over email. How come when I call any of the addresses on their websight as places of business nobody has ever heard of them before?

I just can’t believe that you don’t know how to make a difference. I mean there are a lot of scam alerts on the internet about people USING THEIR NAME to scam other people but my advice to you people is either you read the reports and make a difference, or stay off the internet. There are people saying that sellers on Craigslist or eBay asks the buyers to send the payment directly to them and they claim to sell things through The Collecting Depot, they even send fake “legit looking” emails like in all cases (PayPal scams, eBay scams)... I mean really guys, if you are scammed on eBay by some guy, do you blame eBay or yourself? Do you even see how many people actually used the TCD service and are happy with it?

The Collecting Depot has a BIIIG warning on their website so anybody can see and leading people on HOW TO USE THE REAL DEAL, but people don’t know and if they are taken by a scammer or even find a scammer on craigslist , they blame the whole service for this, maybe the guy you are talking to is a scammer maybe its not, but verify your transaction, contact their customer support, see if they have the seller or not. I just can’t believe this and this makes me wonder why the internet exists and why people are using it if they don’t know how to read a warning and stay safe by following the tips.

You wouldn't have happened to purchase the Craigslist listing for

2007 SeaDoo Wake Edition 215 HP Jet Ski?

I seem to be in the same delima as you are!  thought I researched Collecting Depot well.  Seller sounded legit and sent numerous pics... that was 8/5/13  Sent money to off shore bank (first clue)  waited for some time until the website said they had received then started "delivery" process which was extended twice, and now I get a "page not found" error when I search the transaction!?  I figure I have been scammed.  Not sure what to do at this point to protect others.  Will start looking into it though.
