Paypal Dispute Help

So I got caught up in a scammer on Paypal. I have 700 bucks up at stake and I can't afford to lose it (I'm buyer). I have escalated to claim, I paid for goods, and he has until this Friday to reply on the resolution center (paypal no ebay). I read that If the seller doesn't respond "usually" the buyer will win the case. He has not provided tracking or expected delivery or really anything. No replies period to the resolution center. Plus I don't want him to reply because that could just give him reasons to win the case. But what additional information might I have to provide paypal after his time line is done? And what are my odds of winning? And I guess i said I paid for goods above, but Im not 100% sure if I did or not. Maybe gifted which would kill me! Using the paypal app it didn't let me pick just pay. But is it true you really can't escalate to claim if you paid for gifts?

Hi Casey54hockey -

I'm glad that you've come here to the Community for some help! 🙂

As we're unable to view the details of the case here (as this is member-to-member help), I can't give you 100% guarantees on anything. If you want specific details I'd recommend getting in touch with our customer service either by calling us, sending us a Tweet, or a private message on Facebook.

That being said, if you were able to open a dispute then it would be unlikely that you paid for it as a gift. As gifts have no Purchase protection, you wouldn't even be able to open a case on this type of payment. Hopefully that helps alleviate some of your concern. 🙂

As for your likelihood of winning, we do give the seller 10 full days to respond to the case. If he doesn't reply at all, you would receive a refund on the 11th day. There is very little that would stop this process. And while I can understand you not wanting him to respond, either option would be good for you. Either he provides a tracking number showing the item is, at the very least, on it's way to you or he doesn't respond at all and you're refunded.

I hope this helps explain your options a little better, and please let us know if there are any other questions or concerns! 🙂

- Andy
