Non-eBay Trades using Paypal

Hi,

I would like to ask if I do non-eBay trades(e.g. forum trades) using Paypal, am I still covered under buyer protection?

The only thing I am worrying about is the seller doesn't send the item at all or pretending he has already sent it, in this case should I open an item not received dispute directly through Paypal? Since it is not Ebay trades, what proof/evidence will I need when file a dispute?

Does anyone have similar experience that can be shared here?

There hasn't a trade going on yet, I am asking just for preparation. 🙂

Thank you

As long as you have an invoice or proof of purchase and the item is tangible meaning that it can be shipped and tracked, you would have buyer protection.  If you simply use the send money feature for the purchase of a tangible item, you won't have any protection.

Hi snowshoe, I have recently purchased some vinyl records outside of Ebay from two different sellers. I have made payment to them after I've received invoices from them and paid them via Paypal of course. I have read on the Paypal Buyer Protection site that buyers are not protected, unless we "make payment by choosing the "physical goods tab" instead of "service". My question is this: Am I protected under Paypal buyers protection scheme, if the following happens:

1. If I dd not receive the items.

2. If I received items which are defected for whatever reasons: poor packaging, poor handling during shipping etc.

If you recieve a request for money to buy something not from ebay but just using paypal itself, and you pay for it, are you covered for the protection? Lets say, all the guy says in the subject that it's the stuff that you wanted to buy, which are these figures. No description is included whats so ever, just the subject, and the amount all under the request for money.

I got a reply from Paypal last week. The person in charged informed me that we for my case, I am eligible under Paypal protection. I think that's because I have an invoice stating what type of "goods" I have purchased. So, I think the best way is to ask the seller to send an invoice in future, and stating the items in the invoice. As for your case, I think you will still be under protection, as long as you can show proof of what you have bought are physical in nature. When Paypal does lodge their investigation into a dispute, they do go in depth. You can use your personal Email text and even Paypal text as proof of your correspondence with the seller. Paypal accept that as proof. I have first hand experience last year itself. So no worries. Hope that helps.
