Lost USPS package. Lower value marked for item.

Hi everyone, I bought an item worth $494. On June 19th, seller shipped with usps priority on the 24th of June. Seller is in the USA and I am in New Zealand.

Until now the package never arrived and usps tracking never got past 'sent to sort facility'

Seller said he didnt ship it himself because he shipped it through his friend who owns a shipping company.

Both of us are resigned to the package being lost, and know have started to find ways to recover it.

The problem is that i asked the seller to mark down the value of the item to $100, and he said if i claim through paypal it will be for the full amount. He can only claim $100 from the usps insurance.

The deadline for claims is the 3rd of August. So if I file a claim on paypal, would paypal side with the seller since i was the one that asked for a lower value. Seller doesnt seem to be in rush to help, since he has no loss.

I would like to know if Im able to get the full amount back if i file a claim or will i only get $100 back? he said that the insurance will take awhile to claim and after he gets the $100 from usps he will send it to me. But that could still be 1 month away.

You need to request a full refund via the dispute as soon as possible as you only have 45 days from the date of purchase.

If you paid using a credit card, you also have the option to contact your card issuer.  If PayPal does not respond in your favor, your credit card issuer may be able to do a chargeback for you.

Thats what i thought, but the seller said because i asked to mark down the package's value to $100 paypal would side with him. I dont really want to lose $394.. He said if i file a claim he has proof of me asking him to lower the value and shipping slip from his friend who he shipped through of the value of the item in the insurance.

I know usually i would get my money back if i file a claim but not sure in this case.

Seems quite odd that the seller asked you to reduce the value of the package.  A legit seller would not even consider that.  Personally it appears that the seller had plans to scam you from the get go.

No I asked him to lower the value. Should i still file a claim, I understand that paypal would usually side with the buyer since the seller would not have a delivery confirmation receipt since the item is lost.
