credit card declined

I tried to pay for an item off e bay yesterday but paypal wouldnt accept credit card details. Trying to bypass paypal didnt work either. I had to use debit card in the end. This morning I tried to buy from another site that uses paypal as an option with the same result.  I know my credit card is ok so what's going on?

Did you try to pay directly with your credit card rather than through your PayPal account?

Were you logged into your PayPal account at the time?

I tried using card alone but it was as though paypal controlled all credit card payments, not just through site. Happened not just on ebay, but other site offering paypal as payment option.

Paypal does not work with every card issuer,what is the card and who issued it?

I use Natwest Visa and have never had a problem with this card before.

Problem sorted. It turns out card provider had decided several transactions were suspicious. They weren't, I simply made several transactions within a short period.Panic over.
