Obtaining Refund for SCAM Purchase without BUYER PROTECTION

I recently purchased some concert tickets on Craigslist and paid with PayPal believing I was automatically protected. Unfortunately, at the sellers request, I sent the payment through the friends and acquaintances option. Within minutes, I knew I had been scammed and notified PayPal. They opened a dispute, and held the money for a few days, but denied that the transaction was unauthorized. I don't believe the seller ever responded to PayPal's request for information, yet they released my money to this scumbag.

Any suggestions on how to pursue a successful claim? I'm extremely disappointed in PayPal's refusal to do more simply because the transaction did not qualify for buyer protection (lesson learned). Thanks for any advice.

perhaps wait a few days to see if the appeal button appears.  You can argue that the seller is selling goods and services but requesting payment via friend and family and that is against PayPal policy.  Did you ever get your tickets?  If not, you can add that to the argument.   PayPal can still deny your appeal stating bad judgement or you not reading the user agreement to know whether or how you can be protected so be prepared for that.

Thanks for your response. No, I never received the tickets.

You're welcome.  Well, more fuel to the fire.  You can also add that since you paid via F&F for tickets you did not receive, that PayPal didn't get their PayPal fee for what's supposed to be a goods payment!  So they got ripped off too!
