where does the money go

when someone sends me a payment will the money be transfered onto the credit card linked to the paypal account?

The money goes into your paypal account balance.

When you want to you can click on "withdraw funds" just below that balance and send it to any bank account you have linked to your paypal account.

You can't withdraw to a card in the U.S.
