Instant Payment Confirmation?

I got an email from Paypal stating "This email confirms that you have received an Instant payment of  $3,500.00 USD", etc etc.
Near the end of the email it says "The above sum has included the transport charges and taxes as we and the Transport Company quoted for the buyer (as per PayPal Policy). You will receive a Message from the PayPal Customer Verification Department Shortly informing you on how to send the shipping charges and taxes to the transport company with the above details as soon as possible."

I have not actually received anything, there is no history in my transaction list or pending list or anywhere in my account. Also, PayPal has not messaged me again like the email said they would.

This transaction needs to be done ASAP. I don't have a credit card but my bank account is linked to my PayPal account. I was just wondering if I have to wait a few days, or is there some kind of step I'm missing?

I think you received a fake email on behalf of paypal.
be careful if you click on the link in the email.

make sure the email is from a paypal.com domain

Well that's what I originally thought too, but that's the thing, there are no links in the email, only an address here and there to email back, and nowhere asking for any kind of personal information for anything. It's a buyer for the car I'm selling, and he's been in contact with my brother, with the details of the sale which I posted on Kijiji.

well, I forget to ask. how do you ensure that email is from paypal?

I have not had the experience of receiving payment even though only 1 USD.

But my theory is that when you receive the money, then paypal will tell you that you accept the money.  and when you check on paypal page, there is money in your account.

I did reply to the email, there was no response. And about an hour ago I got two more urging me to act swiftly, and to quickly send the shipper the $900 for shipping the car. They say THEN I'll get the money in my account. There is still no pending transaction or anything in my account either. Also, in these latest emails, there are links to PayPal and as I understand it, the actual site always urges you to open a new browser and type in the site's url.

So at this point, yeah, pretty sure this is a scam. But it's a very well done scam, it all looks very professional.
