I had to initiate a chargeback through my credit card company

I bought an item for $200 first transaction said it didn't go through so I ran it again long story short I have two $200 charges on my credit card and it's a month later multiple times to reach out to the merchant and I still don't have the item. I purchased the item through PayPal however I did not sign into my account to do so. so about two weeks ago I initiated a chargeback then the buyer contacts me and says he accepted responsibility PayPal has taken the money out of his account and Paypal has closed the case. Question is after a chargeback case is closed. How long will it be before I get my $400 on my credit card.

How do you know he is telling the truth and how do you know that the case is closed.

Have your credit card company told you??

As for paying as a guest buyer you could still have opened a dispute, all you had to do was phone customer services and they would have opened one for you.

I'm only going by what he told me. My cc card told me to tell him to refund me and he told me he can't. That the money has been taken from him already and the case is closed....so thanks for the tip of calling I can definitely use that going forward but as for this it's already done. So my question is if he is telling the truth after the case is closed how long before I get my money back. What is the general timeframe .

This is what my credit card said exactly" if he has accepted responsibility then he should just refund you unfortunately we cannot stop the chargeback process at this point but he is free to refund you at any time".... I told him this and he said "no I cannot refund you I do not have the option to do so the money was taken out of my account when I accepted liability for the transaction if I send you the money I would be paying you twice the case is closed on my end" in all that my only question is if the case is in fact close as he told me it is...what Is the general timeframe for me receiving my money.

OK if they are saying that they can't stop the chargeback process then it sounds as if the case is not closed and still ongoing.

When you file a chargeback IF the seller has funds in their paypal account balance then paypal will indeed "hold or freeze" those funds so he is correct in saying that he would be refunding you twice.

Its probably best for you to deal directly with your c.c. company as you started the process that way and ask them the timescale for recovery of your funds as in the event of a chargeback the c.c. company make the decision on a refund and not paypal.
