When paying for things on ebay I used to be able to choose whether I wanted to pay in the sellers currency or in my card currency of GBP. I always used to choose sellers currecy as paypal's exchange rates are always really bad. However, I don't seem to be able to make this choice anymore.
How do I choose to make a payment in the sellers currency now? Or are we now forced to pay with an unfavorable exchange rate?

Ever since Ebay recently changed its checkout process, simply popping up a paypal login screen before returning to ebay to complete the payment I am also experiencing this problem. I have a Euro credit card and often buy items listed in Dollars, GBP, etc.
Previously, when, during ebay checkout, payment was completed within Paypal, I was able to select the Euro based card and also tell Paypal to bill me in the original currency, allowing my card issuer to make the currency conversion. This was always my choice as Paypal's exchaneg rates are terrible compared to my card issuer. However, in the new ebay checkout process, after logging into Paypal using the popup screen, one is returned to ebay to complete the payment and there one can select to pay with any bank account or card that has been registered to your Paypal account but there is no option to force Paypal to bill in the seller's original currency. Therefore one is always forced to accept Paypal's FX rates.
I even tried once to pay using credit card instead of using Paypal and the payment seemd to be made in the seller'soriginal currency but Paypal are still in the process handling the credit card trasaction for ebay and my card was billed in Euros once again, Paypal having applied their own exchange rates behind the scenes. This is surely anti-competitive and it will discourage me from buying via ebay in the future, I will instead probabyl switch to other sights where I am not forced to accept uncompetitive exchange rates every time I make a purchase.

I am running into the same issue. No more currency conversion options. My credit card does NOT charge a conversion fee so I would like to use it but now cannot.
Need someone to comment on this as all of the previously suggested settings to find (including the new website ones) no longer exist.

Can someone from Paypal teach us how? Its really frustrating as 10 times out of 10, Paypal charges me a higher rate than my bank would.
This is really frustrating!

I am in Malaysia and this is getting on my nerve. How can PayPal hold us ransom for ebay purchases?
PayPal is now indeed not Ebay ie they "separated" last year, but it seems both are conspiring to force ebayers to submit to their plan of taking advantage to the buyers. PayPal insist on being the money exchanger, as they can profit even more and the exchange rate could be way higher than what it is actually at the moment. PayPal can get a comission when processing the payment for the seller, and they can also get additional hidden comission from the buyer. To make it worse, it is up to them how much the exchange rate it.
Last time there was an option to choose if PayPal would convert the currency or not, but now that option is taken away.
It seems PayPal is determined on forcing ebayers to pay them their controversial exchange rates
TO THOSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM: WRITE TO THE FTC .. FEDERAL TRADE COMISSION. TELL THEM THAN PAYPAL IS VIOLATING USA ANTICOMPETETIVE LAW. YOU CAN JUST SEARCH FOR FTC WEBSITE BY GOOGLE, AND WRITE A COMPLAINT THAT PAYPAL IS FORCING YOU TO ACCEPT THEIR CONTROVERSIAL EXCHANGE RATE.

You can also write to your respective central bank which regulates the law relating to the use of money. Tell them that PayPal is forcing you to accept their abominable exchange rate and ebay is also using PayPal as their credit card processing company, ie if the user did not use PayPal as the payment processor
