Echeck confusion please help!

Hello i recently bought my toddler a toddler bed off ebay and accidently paid via echeck. Basically what had happened was my partner hadn't trasferred me the funds so i had to check out a second time and didnt realise the second time was via an echeck. Anyway i asked the seller to cancel the order as i was in a rush for this item and it already had to come from poland,she agreed and i had confirmation of this via an ebay email. I ordered again straight away using my card via paypal and that was that..or so i thought. Today the first transaction has left my bank so ive basically paid twice. The lovely and very patient seller has said she has not recieved the echeck. However my balance is zero and the echeck still reads uncleared?? Im so very confused,the extra transaction has caused me to go over my overdraft and i dont have the money to make it up right now. I know this is my own fault for not paying attention but im really confused can anyone advise me as to where my money has gone and when im likley to get it back?

When you pay someone it is never instant > paypal credit the seller and then start the process of transfering those funds from your bank account.

When the seller cancels / refunds those funds can't do a u-turn > they have to process through to paypal when as you have been refunded they will be credited to your paypal account balance for you to withdraw to your bank account again OR spend in there.

Thanks for your helpful reply, i don't suppose you have any idea how long this takes do you? My partner is livid with me understandably as we will be getting charged £5 per day that we are over the overdraft. Thanks.

Bank transfers take 3-4 business days so hopefully it should clear through by then.

Unfortunately you will then have to withdraw it back to your bank account and that may take a few more days.

Oh thats not too bad i was expecting it to take weeks! Just going to have to deal with the bank charges.
