Does using gift cards charge a linked credit card if the gift card covered the transaction?

I used my Paypal account earlier today to pay for some of my purchases, which I then covered entirely with a gift card. Since at the time, I didn't have a card linked to Paypal, I pulled out my credit card and linked it. As it turns out, I had accidentally used a medical card for the transaction (which can't be used for this).
I was just wondering, since the entire purchase was covered by the gift card, would I be fine or should I contact the card company and report an accidental use?

I would like to add that on the "Funding Source" on the Paypal Summary page for the item it lists "Gift Card."
