Can't Refund an Unclaimed Payment - Help!

On Friday May 10 I was sending my brother some money and accidentally sent it (via the "send Money to Friends and Family" link) to the wrong address. I then sent another payment to my brother's correct email.   The money sent to the wrong address has been sitting there unclaimed since May 10th.  The money was been deducted from my checking account Saturday May 11, but every time I try to cancel the payment, Paypal won't let me!  Please help, I just want my money back! Thanks!

The reason you can't cancel the transaction is because the address it went to is registered with PayPal.  Note, it may not be an active address but, just the same it was registered at some point in time.   If the address was not registered, the "cancel" link would be active and you could cancel the transaction.  As this is not the case, if the funds remained "unclaimed", PayPal will return the funds to you after 30 days.  If by chance the funds are claimed, the only way to get the money back is to contact the person who claimed them.

The "Cancel" link IS active though.  I keep getting the same message when I try to cancel:

Sorry — your last action could not be completed

If you were making a purchase or sending money, we recommend that you check both your PayPal account and your email for a transaction confirmation after 30 minutes.

If you came to this page from another website, please return to that site (don't use your browser's Back button) and restart your activity.

If you came from PayPal's website, click the PayPal logo in the upper-left corner to return to our home page and restart your activity. You might have to log in again.

And I have deleted my cookies, etc., and it still will not work.

Try the basic stuff first:

Delete your web browser's cookies, temp files and history.  Next close the web browser, reopen it and log back into your account to retry.

Should the results be the same, try using another web browser, IE, FireFox, Chrome or Safari or if possible another computer.

Should the results be the same, you would need to contact customer support for additional assistance.
