Scammed

So basicly I sold a really expensive pair of practically brand new shoes on depop through PayPal, buyer has baught them I told him I was going to Thailand for 2 weeks. He's asked for a refund as they "had a fault" they definitely didn't but fair enough I would refund however I haven't recieved my shoes back? And now PayPal are sayin they can't do anything as its been ten days! Is this for real I've been litteraly scammed and robbed and they can't do anything about it and suppost to be safe? defo not! I went to contact the buyer myself on depop for him to have deleted his account or blocked me. Coincidence? But I now owe money and have no shoes? LOL WHAT A JOKE OF A SERVICE does anyone know how I can take this further ? Surely they can't just say I should of replied in ten days FOR REAL!

Sorry i am confused, surely you did not refund the buyer BEFORE you got the shoes back??
