I sold a diamond ring on eBay. The buyer took it to a jeweler who claims he saw a nick on the diamond (no such nick was noted in the appraisal I had for the ring but I could not prove that it was not subsequently damaged). After talking to the jeweler, I agreed to refund the buyer his payment which I did. I took the ring to my own jeweler the day after receiving the ring back and the DIAMOND IS A FAKE!! This guy and his jeweler have some sort of scam going. Another surprising thing is that the buyer has a good feedback rating on eBay!! I have reported this to eBay and am still waiting an answer. I have also filed a criminal complaint with the LA Dept of Justice. But, is there a way I can prevent the refund via PayPal from going through???

how can you tell he played switch-a-roo?
since it is mounted .
unfortunately, this is common on EBAY,hence the saying-Dont sell anything on Ebay which you cannot afford to lose!
Ebay and Paypal have no way to tell who is telling the truth, pictures and emails and videos can be fake,as soon as tracking and signature show it has been delivered to you,you are expected to refund in 3 days.
if buyer loses dispute on Ebay,he can try Paypal,if he loses on Paypal,he will do a chargeback with cc issuer.
Other sellers haev lost more,a Florida watch shop in business for 60 years and selling on EBAY FOR years sold a Rolex watch $24k and get an emopty box on return.
Ebay has a high value customer service staff, for item over $1k,call them.

you can call EBay hi value dept and they may postpone the refund when they investigate.
The money is on hold right now,is it correct?
you can also try calling the buyer,

most ebay members havemultiple accounts, for buying, selling, reselling, browsing, mischief.
since sellers cannot leave negative feedback, all buyer accounts have positive feedbacks.
