The buyer and I decided that I would provide the goods first and he would transfer the funds as friends and family. When the transfer is made, I would like to check if this was done correctly. Where can I find the details of the transaction that would indicate which method of transfer was used? I can't seem to find the information anywhere in the activities page on my account even in the detailed activities page.

As accepting friends / family payments for items sold is totally against paypal rules then you are at high risk of having your paypal account suspended.
Friends / family payments not only evade paypal fees but try and negate a buyers protection. Luckily that does not work if they funded their paypal payment via a card.
If a buyer sends you a friends / family payment then you would not have an address to send the item to, how they funded that paypal payment is their business.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

If you provide goods to a recipient before receiving any funds, best to consider the goods a gift to the recipient as no payment is required or expected after the recipient receives the goods.
