Question about VM Android phones & Here

Is there a simple way to figure out whether a phone's headset jack has microphone functionality? I'm looking for the least expensive phone I can purchase from Virgin Mobile to use with my VM service for the purpose of accepting credit card payments from my customers at events, and I'm having a hard time figuring out which ones should work.

If you happen to have personal experience using the Here reader on any of the phones below, I'd love to hear about it. Any help would be very much appreciated!

That's a good question. As long as the mircophone jack meets the PayPal Here system specifications it should work with the card reader.

That's exactly what I was trying to find out, Dustin. It's ridiculously hard to figurd out whether Android phones have combo jacks beford buying them, for some reason. I decided to buy an LG Volt and am waiting for my card reader. If it doesn't work, I'll use the new phone as a hotspot for an old wifi iPhone and run cards that way. I'll update here after I find out whether it works, in an effort to help others trying to find this info. ☺

I have received my card reader, and it works just fine with my new LG Volt. Hooray! I wanted to be sure to update the info here because it was so hard for me to find any straight answers online, and I'm sure that there are others out there seeking the same information. Good luck to anyone seeking similar info about another device!

I just got a HTC DESIRE 510 4G LTE  andriod phone and the reader dosen't seem to be working on that one. I guess like you said it has a headphone jack, but the jack is not a Mic/Headphone combo. I still have an older iPhone that I was using before but I would have to make sure Im in WiFi to use Paypal here of course.

There is a workaround, if you need the reader for an occasional event rather than daily use. There was an update that made the reader stop working on my phone (hopefully temporarily) right before an event. I ended up paying for the daily hotspot on my VM phone and connected the old iPhone we have to the internet that way, using the iPhone with the card reader. It was a clunky pain in the behind, but it worked.
