PayPal App login security prompt

I just downloaded the PayPal app and cannot log in to it. I get a page that says 'Security Prompt' but, other than that, it is blank.  My husband has the app on his phone (new last week) and he discovered his is the same. Now we've both wasted the evening trying to solve this problem and see quite a few examples of the same problem going back years and years in this forum. Is there a problem with this app? Why is it available to download if it doesn't work? How do we fix this? Is it worth fixing - I don't know because I can't try the app until I can log into it. The only reason I wanted this app was to see how it works with a PayPal QR code.  I am trying to find an inexpensive solution for taking contactless payments at the small charity I work for. I cannot see what a customer experiences using this app if I can't use the app myself and I'm concerned it's actually a colossal waste of time pursuing this if nobody else can log in to the app either. ... I have this problem too but my experience does not fit their explanation. I used my card reader once a year for a three day craft show and used it successfully for three years in a row. Three days every year for three years with no problem. Went to plug it in for the fourth year and there's the error message. So it can work perfectly well with intermittent charging. I just use the PayPal Here App to take card payments manually which is a bit of a pain but there's no way I’m paying for another card reader. If I get another reader it won't be PayPal. ... I got my card reader three years ago. I need it for three days per year when I have a Christmas craft fair. So I used it for three days in 2016, put it away for a year, used it for three days in 2017, put it away for a year, and used it for three days in 2018. No problems whatsoever, it charged up and worked perfectly without Being touched in the interim. Tomorrow is the opening day of my 2019 craft fair and it is not working. I'm responsible for taking payments not just for myself but for six other people. Half of our sales are by card, this will affect us badly.
