update:   i just heard back from official paypal tek support about the logo not appearing on the cart page but does appear on the checkout page.    and i quote... This is an intended behaviour. The logo do not appear in the cart page. It appears on the page where you are trying to pay. Sincerely, (name edited out in case it would be a problem including it) Global Technical Support PayPal, Inc. lame (imho) - i registered my disapproval (for what it's worth). ... View more

in an attempt to be helpful, here's some updated info i've been able to obtain from direct communication with Paypal support...   first note - the "classic" & "enhanced" views are deprecated. but for some strange reason, there are a minority of folks who still have these views in use. this isn't something we have any control over. i guess Paypal is  s l o w l y  transitioning everyone away from these views and in to what is now called an "advanced node view" (what a name!) - and it's NOT customizable!   the only customizing you can do is to add your logo to it. and the official size of this logo is a small 150x50px!   you can add your logo by either: 1) using the "image_url" html variable option in the 3rd stage of each button creation, or 2) go to your "Profile & Settings" > "Business Information" page & upload it as your "Profile Icon". oh, & yes, if you link to it, it still must be securely hosted, giving it an "https" type url (that help page is wrong).   i've discovered you CAN use Dropbox for this. you just have to modify the url of your shared image a little... when you share an image, you'll get a url something like: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/paypal-logo-150x50.png?dl=0 you'll need to change the domain part & get rid of the end like: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/paypal-logo-150x50.png   NOW - i have noticed that the logo does NOT show up on the "shopping cart" page, but it DOES show up on the "checkout" pages (both if the user clicks to sign in to paypal or to use a credit card). i am still waiting to hear back as to why this is, if it's in error & if there's a way to make it show up on the cart page.   lastly, when i inquired about the "checkout.js" developer option as described @ https://developer.paypal.com/docs/checkout i got a bit of a run-around, trying to guide me to other Paypal products, such as something called "Payflow" - after a few more days of back'n'forth, they finally said i could use the checkout.js option but noted that it is not connected with the button creation tool, so it is more for "developers".   hope that helps. ... Custom Logo & Cart Style Confusion

hello, not sure if i'm posting this in the correct place, but... i've been going in to my profile > sell > buttons area & create buttons for stuff i sell on my website.   i'm trying to figure out how to put my logo on the shopping cart & checkout pages but am very confused.   it's been my understanding that my logo image must be hosted on a secure site, giving the image url an "https" beginning. i used to do this via dropbox, but that doesn't seem to work anymore.   in my research, i found this page... https://www.paypal.com/hk/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-add-a-custom-logo-to-my-paypal-checkout-flow-ts2180 ...and it's 1st method shows to use "image_url=" in step 3 of button creation. but there's 2 problems with this... 1) it doesn't say what SIZE the logo needs to be, & 2) it's example shows it's url at "HTTP" without the "S". so does that mean we do not need to find a secure host anymore??? (as far as the 2nd method goes, i don't know what NVP & SOAP are, much less how to use them).   then i found in the help pages that a logo size should be 150x50px. that seems pretty small to me.   then i found the area to customize checkout pages & it has 2 logo options (190x60 and 750x90). and it has an ability to preview an "enhanced" or "classic" version. but when i click on a button i've already made on my website, it opens a paypal cart that looks completely different than either of these styles.  where are the styling options for that & why isn't it listed with the enhanced & classic choices? moreso, how do you choose which style (enhanced, classic, or unnamed) to be the active one used?   lastly, i came across the developer site & it seems as if this provides yet another cart method, where it pops up a small window with the checkout page - and its style doesn't match any of the other ones mentioned (so now there's 4 styles to figure out?).   if i want to use this developer method, can i simply insert that "checkout.js" code it provides into my site and still use the button creation tool for each of my products? or do i then have to expand on the given code & do it all manually???   so, as you can see, i'm at a loss on: - which method to use, - which size to use, - which style to use, - which code to use, - & where to host my logo image.   would appreciate some guidance, thanks. ... Is it possible to have a unique PayPal ID for each...

title pretty much sums it up.   i make my own (custom) Buy Now, Subscription, & Donation buttons. so i can't use the "hosted-button" option. but i want 2 things...   1) i wanna hide/secure the email address in the buttons.   i've discovered i can do this by replacing the email address with the accounts' Paypal/Merchant ID.   2) but i also have several email address verified in the account, & would like to utilize those for various button purposes.   so is there any way to get an "ID" for each address?   am searching for other obfuscation options, but they all look old & easily hackable.   thanks. ... i've been looking & looking & can't find where to get a list of transactions grouped by "Item Title" &/or "Item ID".   i have "buttons" setup & on a website, & i've given each of these the official "Item Title"'s & "Item ID"'s.   the only place i've found so far where i can see them is if i "download" a CSV file of all transactions. but it would be more handy if i didn't have to do that every DAY (yes, everyday); but if i could just go to a reporting/activity page & select to view transactions for this item or that id. does that make sense? anybody know if this is possible? thanks. ... why do i have to "Subscribe" to get these transaction reports?   and   after i did, there's nothing there - it says "There are no reports for this time period." - but there's no where to set the time period. & yes, there are lots of transactions to view, which are in the Activity area. ... hello,   after reading through a TON of posts & Google finds, i've learned the official Paypal "widget" for donations/fundraisers is no more. so i've been on the hunt and have come up empty!   not wanting to pay another company like "gofundme" & the like, but i'm surprised at the lack of scripts for people who just want to use the Paypal Donation Button & have some sort of thermometer towards a goal.    don't need "fancy" - and i can do any html/css part; i just don't know Jquery/Javascript/PHP type programming myself. don't need any "other" features either - like listing donors or tracking anything or posting anything, i got all that covered via other means. just need the money part....   so does anybody know of any thermometers, meters, progress bars, progress indicators, fundraising scripts that can track how much is donated thru a regular paypal donation button & automatically animate how far along the fundraiser is & needs to go?   i've read thru much of the Paypal API/developer docs & it's just way over my head. but i think it might have something to do with the "IPN" part.   oh, and please, NO Wordpress plugins! 😉 thanks. ... Re: How Secure are non-hosted buttons?

by syberknight Contributor in About Protections (Archive)

hi Andy, thank you for your reply!!!   i have 2 PP buttons on our site...   the 1st is the standard Hosted Donations button, and yes, this does allow for the user to enter the amount on the paypal page. all's good with that.   the 2nd is a Subscription button, but i've not found a way around the forced option to pre-select amount(s) for the donor. the only way i've found to let the user enter the amount they want to donate in a monthly subscription is in the example above; by making it Non-Hosted & providing the field on our end.   when researching how to do that (which does work, BTW), i read people saying how insecure & dangerous it is. but i didn't know how.   so, if i'm understanding you correctly, the only "danger" is a two-fold process, where 1) the site has to be hacked to where someone could change the code on its pages, & then 2) they'd redirect the button's email address to their own.   i would THINK it unlikely for either to happen without our noticing, since we're still building the website & are in it every day. but then if it does get hacked, we'll have a LOT more problems than just them redirecting the donation subscription button.   so, i guess there's no danger unless someone hacks the site - right? all that's "exposed" is the email address.   sidenote: would there be a way with PHP or JQuery/Javascript to encrypt the non-hosted form to at least keep prying eyes (& bots) from getting at the email addy?   thanks! ...
