Hi Folks, I listed a car for sale on Gumtree Australia this afternoon, a few hours later I got a text from someone using the name "Booksy" the message read: "Hello, I am enquiring about the vehicle listed for my son. Kindly get back to me with details on my personal email only on mthmpsatoutlook.com" I sent a reply which did not get delivered suprise suprise. I did not go as far as others as this sounded iffy to me from the off so I googled the address and found loads warning of this scammer with different names just same theme of something for his brilliant son so he will not be getting an email unless he bothers me again and I leave it to your imagination what my reply might include. @bundyrum wrote: I had some germ using the MARK THOMP name yesterday first asking me via text with no number just ip1 as a name if my case was still for sale and he was a sailor and buying the car for his son in the northern territory. Apparently his son graduated top of his class and the car was a a surprise gift. He said he was already looking for couriers and that he didn't have a phone only Internet access and he wanted my paypal account or my bsb and bank account details and the name on the account. Sounds very similar to some of the others i read. It sounded i but dodgy to me so i said send me your paypal and I'll request payment from you and he didn't reply for approx 8 hours. At that point he said good news the money is ready to be transferred i just need your bsb and account numbers. I told him i was happy for him to but it from ebay and use his paypal that way. Again went quiet. It felt like a scam at that point so i pointed out to him if he really was at sea using Internet then the Internet would be using the same network as a phone would use so that was a lie and he could buy it from eBay if he was keen. I also finished off by saying if his son actually graduated top of his class then tell him he didn't get his intelligence from you because your a dumb s#$t. It all seemed to elaborate from the start and in the end i looked on google today and find same stories. Im not sure but if they get your email address its usually your paypal account id and they may be able to access some verification with accounts. Or they may be able to debit your account as a fake business. I don't really know what they are capable of but it's just another low life scam affecting unsuspecting people.
