Paypal is a scam. I can't even get a refund of a miserable $10, what makes you think they are going to give you back CA $ 520 ? Met this seller in a chatroom, paid her $10 to her email, then she disappeared. There's nothing in their website here to contact. They've conveniently not given you any email contacts. Tried contacting them thru Twitter, but my friend warned me that I was wasting my time trying to get a refund from Paypal. Gave them the transaction ID, someone replied promising to help, asked me to PM them my Paypal email. I smelt a rat - why do they need my email for, when the transaction ID was all they needed to check out ? So I gave my email via PM anyway. This nonsense came back - obviously a standard pre-printed reply which they send to everyone : When you sent the funds, did you do so using the “Friends & Family” option, or the “Goods & Services” option? If you used “Goods & Services”, you can open a dispute regarding that transaction, which can then be escalated to a claim if they refuse to refund you. When a dispute is escalated to a claim, PayPal will take a look at the case and any pertinent evidence provided by either side, and then decide the case in either your or the other party’s favor. If you used “Friends & Family”, on the other hand, PayPal regrettably cannot provide you with any assistance, as “Friends & Family” transactions are not covered by PayPal. “Friends & Family” payments are intended to be used with individuals whom you fully trust, and essentially exist to allow instant and fee-free transactions in cases where the possibility of fraud is practically nonexistent and buyer protection only creates an unnecessary hindrance. Note that you may still be able to get your money back even if you sent it as “Friends & Family”, if you paid using a credit card – in that case, contact the card company and ask them to issue a chargeback on the transaction. My friend was right. I wasted my time. I am filing complaints direct to : The FBI's I3C internet fraud division. The FTC's Consumer Protection Division. The IRS's Tax Audit Division.
