I just placed one order @ebay with the total $3.68. The seller lists the item in CAD currency. When I bought it, I used a ebay gift card which should be enough to cover the whole balance. However, after I submitted the order, the charge changed. Instead of charging the total to my gift card, it charged $3.67 to my gift card, and $0.12 to my backup credit card. I understand that foreign currency conversion is dynamic, so the final charge might be a little different. But why does ebay split the charge into two parts, one paid by ebay GC, one paid by my credit card, while the ebay GC still has some money left there (>$3 left on GC after $3.67 charge).
