I don't think Paypal's reassurance is valid for all cases. I got one of these text fraud alerts a couple of hours ago, asking "Are you trying to pay £145GBP? If yes reply 1 etc...." Strangely yes I did a transaction TO Paypal for that amount a few hours previously, but I was paying Paypal Credit from my Metro Bank debit card. I hadn't made a Paypal payment, I made a payment to Paypal for that amount. This cannot be coincidence regarding the amount, but why would Paypal think it suspicious me paying my own bill to them??? The number shown is <removed> and the text sits under previous ones received that I do know to be genuine.
