I too had a similar e-mail from the same person today (***** ****) as I had goods for sale via GumTree I sent a PayPal request for the money and later received an e-mail purporting to be affiliated to PayPal linked to Money Gram They stated taken £700 from client account ready to pay me but to release funds into PayPal I had to send £250 Via MoneyGram first.
Fortunately I could see straight away this was bogus. Contacted Paypal direct, cancelled Payment request, reported same to Trading Standards and also the National Fraud Office. Issue raised with Gumtree but nor sure what they will do.
The ensuing e-mails from this person once they realised I would not 'Play Ball' were rather irate and mildly threatening.
