We are a small coffee shop that sells coffee, pastries, and local crafts. Someone came in and made a food and drink purchase that came to around $20.00. We had live music so they grabbed a table and enjoyed their food and drinks. This customer made another purchase of handcrafted soaps on her way out which totaled about $18.00. Fast foward 3 weeks and we get a chargeback for one of the purchases. We pull our receipt as well as the reciept for the second purchase and wrote a paragraph on the sale, the receipt, the duration and any details we could. One week later we get the second chargeback on the second order. We dispute it and send in reciept, etc etc. Today we find out PayPal closed the case, paid the credit card company out of our account, and charged us $20 per chargeback. So this lady has cost us $80.00 plus we are out merchandise. I just got off the phone with PayPal and after the third agent, I asked what protection do we have as a store with no on line sales. She flat out told me "We offer no protection to sellers who operate brick and mortar stores." I was blown away. I asked her what should I do in the future? I explained that we have video survallence of this woman making her purchases, she signed the iPad with her signature, we have the receipts but the agent said there is nothing they can do. I, again, asked what can I do to protect myself in the future and she suggested I go with a credit card processor since I don't do buisness online. WOW.... Basically find someone else who gives a crap because we don't! So so if anyone has any processors they can suggest please let me know.
