Perhaps I don't understand the terminology, but I think postback means when you contact paypal's servers to verify the IPN.  Any decent PHP install should be able to handle that, since the SSL is outgoing not incoming.   Can somebody from paypal please confirm what the policy is for the IPN URL itself? ... I've been doing tihs on my site: http://hcidesign.com   Buyers get an email wiht a unique download URL after payment clears. URL works for anybody they share it with, but I've had very little problem with that. The process requires my own custom PHP code hosted on pair.com (any good webhost would do, though), and is triggered by paypal IPNs. True, but I've been doing this myself for a couple years, and chargebacks amount to less than 1%. Ive had much more trouble with ebay users than paypal users. ... View more

My IPN is a HTTP URL. No problems. But it is several years old. There is some evidence to suggest that new IPN URLS must start with HTTPS. It would be nice for somebody from paypal to confirm this, however.  And also to let us know when our old IPN URLS must be upgraded (my server doesn't support SSL, so it's going to be somewhat expensive). ...
