I just preordered the surface pro 4 and used my paypal. My credit limit was $585 and I had $280 available. The total charg for the surface was $978. I was approved and given 6 months to pay it off. So yes it its true, you must do the purchase to bring you over your credit limit for them to look into giving you a credit line increase. I confirmed this with customer service. Hope this helps.
