Good afternoon, I have a PayPal Credit Account & face a few problems making monthly repayments: indeed, so much so that I have already had to pay an agreed default amount because of late payment of my monthly minimum payment on the account. The majority of the following explanation is fairly detailed because I am hoping that the way I deal with my limited income may be of help to other readers in a similar situation. If you are comparaively well off, stop reading now. I should point out, before going any further, that setting up a Direct Debit is not an option, even though PayPal assure me it is the best way to avoid a default. I disagree because the Direct Debit method of paying any kind of bill is outdated as a means of guaranteeing a payment inasmuch as not everyone is so well off they always have sufficient monies deposited in the bank to cover all eventualities. Basically, what I am saying is, it works for those of us who are moderately rich to super rich: for those of us in society who struggle to make ends meet on a weekly or monthly basis [i.e. State pensioners such as myself or those of us who MUST rely on Benefits, through no fault of their own]. Most people in our situation and everyone else who is paid monthly, specifically every 28 days, NOT every calendar month can no longer rely on funds being available to pay by DD because DD's leave one's bank account every calendar month: obviously, the calendar month day will not always within a few days or even a week following one's 28 day payment. In fact, more often than not, within a few months one finds the calendar month DD is being paid before the funds to cover it are deposited, and we all know where that leads - bank charges!! I am sure everyone can see where this is going so I will just say this. Had it been wintertime last month when my bank charges were paid, there is every chance I, my wife or one of our two Samoyeds would have perished from lack of food [it would have been me then my wife because the Samoyeds are our responsibility and we will starve before seeing them come to harm or want for for food]. I hope you are still with me on this. Because DD payments end up driving me to the point of destitution [banks love that, hence their unconscionable and unjustifiable charges], I rely on Standing Orders which, as well as being payable on the exact day funds are deposited and thus annuling any chance of a dafault, they are flexible now we have Internet Banking. Amounts can be changed instantly so one can reduce the monthly payment to say, one's water supplier if one needs to pay a little extra on one's credit account because the minimum monthly repayment is slightly higher due to a necessary emergancy purchase. A cooker for instance because the old one died unexpectedly. Now here is the nub: because PayPal do not use account numbers and the only reference required to lake or receive payments is one's primary email address, I cannot set up a Standing Order because my email address is quite long - too long, in fact, to fit in the space provided by my bank to add a reference for the payment. Of course, the easiest solution would be to register a shorter email address to my PayPal account and then make it my primary; this I have done, but I do not see why I should have to. These financial matters are complicated enough already without having to to add email addresses AND keep them active. Is there an alternative solution I have missed? I would hate to think I am going to be hit with another late payment fee because I had not known of a simpler method of paying my monthly minimum repayment. Incidentally, the last and only one, so far, worked out to almost two and a half times more than was necessary. I look forward to comments and/or alternative solutions. Kindes regards and thank you for your time and attention, Gemini566
