Follow up on suspected fraud

On Saturday I recieved my latest credit card statement and amongst all of my recognised payments there was a suspect payment  of a considerable amount of money that I know I never made, it was listed on my credit card statement as "Paypal" followed by two initials that I don't recognise.    The first thing I did was come online and check my paypal account transactions, there is no record in my paypal account of such a payment. I then checked my email for paypal transaction reciepts and there was also nothing about this payment in those.   I then phoned Paypal customer service and I spoke with two people who both seemed to be very helpful and even though i'm not the best on the phone I felt I'd put my case across well. I was told that an investigation was being launched by paypal and I felt somewhat better about the situation.   But then, in what  was no more than an hour later, I recieved a automated and vague email back from paypal saying that due to insufficent evidence my case was being closed.   Since that time I've found out that a website I subscribe to via the credit card i use for paypal had a security breach last year and many members of that site reported fraudulent transactions on their credit cards.    On the day that the unrecognised payment appears on my credit card statement, the only other payment that went out of my card that day was my monthly subscription to the website I just spoke of. It may be a coincidence but it seems too big of a coincidence for me to overlook. I believe that if this is indeed a case of somebody stealing my card details there is a good chance they got them via the security breach.   But even if I'm barking up the wrong tree regarding that website, I still think there is strong evidence to show that I didn't make this huge payment. Again...there is no record on my paypal account of such a payment existing and there is no email reciept.    With the very occasional exception I only use this card for reoccuring monthly subscriptions and the majority of my transactions are made from my home. So surely this must make it easier for Paypal to narrow down this oddity amongst the payments and see that it didn't come from my paypal account?    Today I contacted my bank, I told them everything I told paypal on Saturday and my card is being changed and an investigation is ongoing from them, but they wouldn't give me any details regarding this suspected fraudulent payment (such as where it was made from, what was purchased etc)   So what I want to know from Paypal is this, why were you unable to find anything on your end? Could it be because my card details are being used by a fraudster with another paypal account? Or is it possible that despite what it says on my card statement the Paypal website was never used in this suspected transaction at all?   Also Paypal, why did the investigation take such a small amount of time? Why is there no record of an investigation having taken place in my PayPal profile?   I'd be grateful if Paypal could have another look at my profile and see if they have any record of this supposed payment and at the very least acknowledge that something suspect has gone on concerning my credit card details in order to help my bank with there investigation.   Sorry if this post has rambled on some, I've just tried to articulate my situation the best way possible via this forum. (As on the phone I sometimes forget things I want to say)   This situation has caused me a considerable amount of stress this past weekend, in all my years of using the internet and online banking I've never encountered anything like this. I'm confident that whatever has gone on is through no fault of my own and with help from Paypal as well as my bank I just want the situation resolved as quickly and as smoothly as possible.   Thanks for reading               ...
