The thing is that I wasn't trying to link my card to my PayPal account. That being said, I have sucessfully linked a pre paid gift card to my PayPal before, believe it or not. Maybe it's because I had the option to register the card with my info but that's something else entirely. I was just trying to pay for somethingsolely with my gift card, without using a PayPal account. I've done it before but not when I was running low on funds. Oh well, we'll see what happens. =/
