update : i sent the message that looked like it came from paypal, to paypal. they replied that it was, indeed, a phishing attempt. the person originally contacted me via a text message to my phone about a laptop i had for sale. he then gave me his email and said to send him a paypal invoice, which i did. the paypal messages i got after that indicating that i had received payment from him were, indeed, fake.

i received the following regarding an item i'm selling: Thank you for using PayPal for your online auctions. We at PayPal are ensuring that all our customers and auction site are fraud free. This PayPal® Payment has been deducted from the Buyer's account and has been "APPROVED" but will not be credited to your account until the shipment online tracking delivery number is sent to us for verification. This security measure is embark on, due to the fact that the buyer was subscribed under PayPal User Protection Policy so as to secure the buyer's transaction. Now the problem i see so far is that this came from, and i'm supposed to provide info to : (at)nokiamail(dot)com and also the shipment address is to africa. what has me concerned is the "nokiamail" url and also that i don't see this same message within my legitimate paypal account. so....question... is this the normal process / details for somesome selling and the process for getting paid, or is this a scam?
