Hello Community, hope you can help me...to give me the missing piece for the following riddle: this happened a few times now to me: I was doing online-shopping and paying with PayPal, completely in USD There were no fees by PayPal for an international transtion or something like this as the recipient of this payment is Non-U.S. - Verified. The currency of the payment was completely is USD. However, PayPal deduces the required money from my bank account. All good, but, now the strange thing happens. My bank charges me for 3% of the transaction value for "international transaction". At this point, I thought PayPal deduces the money from my account in america and forwards it to the merchant/recipient in the destination country (US or not). The crucial point is, I thought it is unknown to the bank what I was doing, except that PayPal deducts money from them. I investigated why my bank is charging me 3%, and after struggling with them, referring me back to paypal, referring me back to the bank, my bank told me it is because the recipient was not located in the US, rather in Hongkong in that case. So, why do they know this? And why do they charge me? They are not doing the international transaction, which should be, if required, performed by PayPal. What can you tell me? where are my errors? Or is the error my bank which claims fee they do not deserve? Well the bank is...bank of america...so not much of a surprise? Please help me out? Can i circumvent this trouble by increasing my balance of PayPal such that they do not need to deduct from my bank account when I go shopping again? Thank you very much
