Hello all, I hope people can help me out with my questions. I initially emailed PayPal and while they are helpful, I am still unsure of a few things and hope someone here can help. They suggested I get in contact with the telesales department to find out more about the perfect business solution, but unfortunately they can only be contacted during working hours and don't take emails. I work Mon-Fri 9-5, we don't have phone reception in our work place with my cell phone, and personal phone calls while not illegal are frowned upon and discouraged using the company phone. The PayPal staff also suggested I check out www.x.com but I thought I write here first as I am not exactly sure where to post my question at www.x.com and whether my questions are simple enough to answer here. So I currently registered for PayPal and have a Premiere account. According to what I have read, the suggestion is to go to a Business account once I have a business identity set up (I reside in Australia so it is known as an ABN number). I can then undertake the below features. My idea for a business involves a website that will primarily deal with digital content. I was thus suggested to consider applying for a micropayment feature. However, I also have in mind to sell physical goods as well at a later point in time so I would thus require the general feature as well. What I am confused about though, and struggling to get my head around, is the differences between what is offered in Australia and what is offered by other parts of PayPal. Initially I came across this: https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/paypal-payments-advanced and thought it would be the perfect solution for my website (as I wouldn't require the $30 virtual terminal feature), but then I was told I have to implement this instead: https://www.paypal-australia.com.au/business/accept-payments/accept-payments-on-your-website/hss My question then is: With the Website Payment Pro solution (25/month) do I need to: -Obtain a business account? -If so, will the Website Payment Pro solution be able to integrate a Digital solution (i.e.. allow both micropayments and physical payments on the same website, i.e.. distinguished by the amount they cost) -Do I need to have two accounts if I have a digital solution on my website? I got told I will need two bank accounts, one for micropayments and one for physical payments, but can't both money go to the same PayPal account and then I can just transfer my money wherever I want since it will constitute a digital solution https://www.paypal-australia.com.au/business/accept-payments/accept-payments-for-digital-goods? -If I have read this page correctly: https://www.paypal-australia.com.au/business/accept-payments/accept-payments-on-your-website/hss The Website Payment Pro solution is saying that if someone wants to buy my product, they will have to go to another page to pay. It will look like my site but it will be a different site. But doesn't this PayPal payment advanced feature suggest that things are kept on my page: https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/paypal-payments-advanced ? I guess I am trying to figure out what is the difference between the two apart from one being for US, one for Australia? It is my hope that I can have a website where if I am selling an item for let's say $5 and I have it on one page, the person that sees the item can purchase the item on that same page and after payment is complete, the person is on that same page and can instantly access that item (since it is a digital good). Is this idea possible or would the person still have to leave the page in order to pay? But if that is the case, is it possible for the person to see item --> click buy button --> purchase successful --> automatic redirect to page with item? -I also have a question about fees. I read the fee policy page (https://cms.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/marketingweb?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=ua/FeesPolicy_full&locale.x=en_AU) but I wanted to throw in 3 examples based on what I read and hope others can confirm that I am doing my calculations correct (assumption of digital goods package). I just want to make sure I haven't missed any extra fees: Person 1 buys item for $5. He is from Japan, paying with credit card. That means the rate is 5% + 1% for being overseas + 4% for country conversion fee (4% because not UK/US currency) + 0.05 cents. Hence total cost is $5.55 Person 2 buys item for $15. She is from UK, paying with PayPal. That means rate is 2.4% + 1% for international + 2.5% for country currency conversion fee (2.5% because pays with PayPal) + 0.3 cents. Total cost is $16.85 Person 3 buys item for $3. They are from US, paying with credit card. That mean rate is 5% + 1% int + 3.5% for conversion fee (3.5% because pays with credit card but within US/UK) + 0.05 cents. Total cost is $3.35 cents. Assuming all the calculations are correct, is it then possible for me to absorb the fees? I.e. I want to make it so that my customers only pay what is stated on the website and I absorb all the extra fees. In this way, person 1 pays just $5 and I pay the $0.55 cent fee. I can think of a workaround solution where I make it so that the person 1 for example pays exactly $5 in product + extra fees but that would be an absolute pain to cater for the entire world, unless it could be done automatically with a bot? (so in the person 1 case, they only pay $4.50 and the fee will end up perfectly to 50 cents making $5). -I also have a question in regards to chargeback fees. Do they apply for digital goods (assuming credit card not stolen) since the product will be instantly available to the individual? -Finally, in regards to a good host. I have been doing a bit of research and initially I will want to start up with a cheap host in order to see how things go and not put too much money in a business that might not work. Can PayPal assist in working out whether a host is suitable for PayPal features. By this I mean whether the host allows SSL at the rate, the concept of dedicated servers, whether the host has the technology to enable all these systems of PayPal work on my site? I was looking at www.justhost.com for this but I am not sure whether it is PayPal compatible (they say they are but I am not sure whether that would require buying all their premium services?). Another option I am looking in to is http://www.a2hosting.com/. Is there any PayPal favorites or suggestions of a host I can go for? That is probably all for now. Terribly sorry for the essay, but clarifications on the above would be deeply appreciated (this is my first time going in to the online business world and incorporating PayPal so please forgive me). Or pointing me to a place where all of the above is answered would do just fine! Cheers! P1. 🙂
