Re: US funds VS Canadian funds

For some Canadian merchants, like ourselves, it makes more sense to charge in USD as most of our customers are in the US. At the very least, the merchant should make it clear throughout their store that currency is in USD. If a customer does want to pay in CAD then they should contact the merchant. If the merchant uses a Virtual Terminal, they can accept CAD if the customer asks AND if the mercahnt wants to accept CAD.   Jim ... View more

The reason many online stores go with only PP is because PP will allow a user to fund a purchase either with a PP member account or not. So literally anybody can purchase using a credit or debit card. In offering such, the merchant does not have to have two types of payment processers (hence two monthly payments).   Someone can step in to correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe the option to fund a purchase from another source (that radio button you speak of), is an option to the PP member in the event they are purchasing something and do not have enough in their PP account. The alternate source will allow the member to deposit money to their PP account and then proceed with purchase.   If you are doing a lot of that, consider a USD credit card. I use one offered by Scotia. Annuel fee is $99 *but* you get cash back with every purchase. If you are purchasing more than $9,900 a year in USD, it will pay for itself. I spend that in a month, so I typically get cash back in the range of $1,000 a year. ... View more

Re: Withdrawing USD to Canadian Bank (US account)

I sell online. I've been dealing with the same issue for about 10-11 years now. Back then, the only way I could keep my USD funds was to open a US bank account, which I did with TDBanknorth (US based). I had TDCanada accounts but since clsoed them out (too costly and no local branch). So I opened a Scotia USD account.    So my solution is I transfer from PayPal to TD at the end of each month. Wait 5 days, then write a cheque to draw from that TD account and deposit it to the Scotia USD account.  Its the only way I know of.   I think, but not sure, if you designate your Cdn sourced US$ account as sourced from the USA, you will enocunter an error. Has to do with routing numbers with the banks. Like I said, not sure, but that's my experience.   Regards, Jim ... View more

Hi,   "That part is good; unfortunately I do have a PayPal account so I have to log in"   Why do you have to log in? Just chose to use your credit card. If you have to use a different email address, then get one. You seem to want to follow good business pratices by keeping your bookkeeping separate. Then follow it up by keeping your business emails separate from your personal emails. That doesn't mean you have to be checking two different email accounts. Just forward all of your business emails to your priamry email account.   I run several businesses. They all are represented with their own email accounts. And they all forward to one primary account for ease of manangement.   Regards, Jim ... View more
