I just experienced a totally disgusting situation with our "friends" from PayPal. Consider this: Sold item to buyer in Canada, accepted $52 payment (inclusive of shipping). Customer was very concerned as to whether the item was NEW (which it was). Thoroughly packed item (double boxed) and shipped VIA UPS (trackable). Item arrived in Canada and buyer was sent message from Canadian Customs Authorities that tax and customs duty needed to be paid. Buyer REFUSED shipment on the grounds of "non-delivery" and filed claim with PayPal for refund. In the claim process buyer wrote that I should have sent it via US Post and indicated that this was a "gift" as then he would not have had to pay import duty and tax in Canada. I pointed out that this was NOT requested by the buyer at time of purchase. Ethically, I would not do this anyway, as I would be a willing accomplice in helping the buyer defraud the Canadian Government. I went through the whole claim process only to be told months later that PayPal had found in favor of the buyer (even though I had provided evidence of the UPS tracking details, as well as copies of emails from buyer stating that he had refused delivery and why. It is a pretty sad situation, when a US company advocates breaking Customs and Tax regulation. Needless to say, this is not the end of it. I fully plan on filing a report with the Canadian Department of Customs on this matter, fully identifying the buyer and his attempt to circumvent Canadian regulations. Someone is going to pay.
