I certainly don't have a problem with carrying a Pay-Pal balance, I actually carry a pretty hefty balance almost all the time. It's kind of a slush fund if you will, that I can access readily. On disputes, it's all about documentation on your part. I just went through a chargeback scenario. My customer claimed they didn't receive the product and initiated a chargeback through their credit card. Pay-Pal in kind, held the funds from my balance and initiated the chargeback procedure..... Because I use Pay-Pal as a payment vehicle for my .com website and I ship USPS or UPS (if ORM D), I always send products to NEW customers, Signature Required on delivery or UPS Signature Requited, exactly what I did with the chargeback customer. I DID NOT contact the customer directly as I had the signature conformation e-mail from USPS (I have an online account with USPS and UPS. Within 30 days of my submission of the relevant documents to Pay-Pal via E-mail, the chargeback was denied. Because I sell worldwide, I also take payments via bank checks and exchange instruments. Not all my payments come through Pay-Pal, though the bulk do. If you decide to take checks and drafts as instruments of payment, be sure to set up a commercial account and make doubly sure they clear prior to shipment. I state that right on my website and I also levy 6% sales tax for in state purchases. Comparing portals (and I did), Pay-Pal is the most secure and across the board, their fees are in the middle of the pack. I've considered a credit card portal (through Pay-Pal but because I can take checks and drafts for direct deposit or postal money orders and occasionally CASH, I have no need for a CC portal or the related fees. If you decide to actually initiate a .com site, be sure it looks and operates professionally and apply due dilligence when pricing your products. I actually have a professional IT that manages my site. It's better to pay someone for a service than wing it and blunder. Remember, all the world can see your amateur efforts. Hope that helps some folks. I've been playing the .com game for a while now. It's fun, makes some serious money and keeps me out of my wife's hair.......lol
