Hello, Everybody!   After a couple of times-longtime ago-of making the mistake of not checking for hidden charges, recurring payments, or any other kind of dishonest “trick”, before filling online orders, now I ALWAYS make sure not to be fooled by online vendors, specially about recurrent surprise-payments. Even so, I found the other day that Avangate took $70USD from my credit card, via Paypal, for the renewal of my BitDefender Internet Security, that I didn’t authorized either when I purchased that software or by the means of a new order. I made a second check of the BitDefender’s and Avangate’s purchasing documentation and-indeed-it doesn’t say anything about automatic renewal anywhere, but somehow they, anyway, managed to schedule a renewal payment in my PayPal “Preapproved Payments”.  BitDefender didn’t work in any of my four completely different computers at home (all of them used to freeze over and over) therefore, I didn’t really used it (wasted money) and I couldn’t even claim for the renewal charge, because I didn’t realized that it was scheduled in my own PayPal Account!    I strongly recommend every PayPal user to check their “My preapproved payments” in their PayPal account, after each purchasing with PayPal, to see if an unauthorized recurrent payment has been scheduled, and if so, just cancel it: in My Account, hover the cursor over the word Profile (next to Resolution Center)>in the menu, click on My Money>in My preapproved payments, click on the blue Update link.  If there is a recurrent payment that you didn’t authorize (Active), click on the respective merchant name, and you will see the Payment details.  Click on the blue word “cancel” above the words Payment details, and that scheduled payment will be cancelled.     ...And (of course) be careful in business with Avangate.   I hope this helps some fellow members.    DWG      ... Probably they should use "if" instead of "while".   Read my "PayPal Web Site Directions on How to Remove Old Debit Card Didn't Work" post from 8/17/10 in this same section.   It will not help you "too much" that we could say, but it probably is going to save you time and complications.   I tried their Help Chat too (Ask Sarah, which surely is just some kind of software) but after explaining to "her" my problem, "she" wrote that she wasn't available at that moment  "...please, try again later" (probably because I didn't write faster). If (like me) what you want is to replace your old credit card (not good any longer) with a new one, and you don't want your account to be cancel (exactly the same problem that I have now) what you can do in the meantime is 1.- adding your new credit card to your account without removing the old one (not yet) so you can keep using your account to buy things (you just need to choose the good one right at the moment, before clicking on the "Pay Now" or "Continue" button) and 2.- checking if there are automated periodical payments to be charged soon to your old credit card (for example, an antivirus annual resubscription that you do want to keep, but would be cancelled because that credit card is not good) In my case, I forgot my Go Trusted Secure Tunnel, which charges a few dollars monthly to my card.   As that card is not good, it couldn't charge and cancelled my subscription (that I wanted to keep).   I hope this info helps you a little.   DWG ... Iconix Email ID-WL Messenger Compatibility Issue?

by DWG Contributor in Watercooler (Archive)

Hello! I just want to let PayPal and users know that there's the possibility of a compatibility issue between Icon Email ID with Windows Live Messenger and/or Go Trusted Secure Tunnel. I just upgraded from Vista Home Premium 64bit to 7 home Premium 64bit.   Before the upgrade I installed Iconix Email ID. Immediately after the installation  •I couldn't open my WL Messenger but only if I tried several times.  •Windows blocked my Go Trusted Secure Tunnel (after about six months using it without problems)  •Apparently it corrupted some registration codes stored in my Messenger, so I couldn't re-enter them in the respective   software by copy/paste, but only if I copied each character by hand. I don't know if the problem was Iconix-WL Messenger or Iconix-Go Trusted ST or Iconix-WL Messenger-Go Trusted ST, but after Windows blocked Go Trusted ST (I received an onscreen notification right at that moment) the problem didn't disappear. Right before installing my Windows 7 upgrade I ran my Checkdisc and after the upgrade the problem was -apparently- solved (I haven't reinstalled my Go Trust) but I don't know what solved it, if my checkdisc or the upgrade or both.   I hope this info helps others to prevent or solve similar problem. PayPal Web Site Directions on How to Remove Old De...

Hello, everyone there! I just subscribed here and this is my very first post.   I thank in advance for any help. First, I want to let you know that I already read “Won’t let me edit debit/credit cards??” posted by Lethaltalent yesterday and used the “More topic options”, but this didn’t solve my problem.   Of course, I could search all of the forums in the internet to see if I find an answer to the question that I can’t email to PayPal, but I’m afraid that I will not live that long. The following is an email that I wanted to send to PayPal but I couldn’t find how.   If I click on “Contact us” and then I choose “via email”, this link sends me to their ask/answer questions software, and this direct me to do what I did already and failed.   The italic letters were added to my message when I thought that finally I had found the way to email them  (but I was wrong).   Hello!    I’m sorry.   I know that you don’t want users to contact you, but sometimes we can’t solve our problems by using your ask/answer questions software. When I did that (How do I remove my old debit card?) it only sent me to the start again: 1.- Log in to your PayPal account (of course) 2.- Click Profile at the top of the page. 3.- Click Credit/Debit Cards under Financial Information. 4.- Select the Credit card to remove and click Remove.   A few minutes ago I added a new debit card to my account and tried to remove the old one but I couldn’t, because when I clicked on Remove it appeared a warning saying that if I remove it, my subscription will be cancelled.   And it says “If you don’t want the subscription to be cancelled, you may change your payment method.” •I don’t want to change my payment method; what I want is only to remove from my account an old card that is not good any longer. The warning continues saying “…by going to the “History” subtab of the “My Account” tab and selecting “Subscriptions” from the drop-down menu.” •But if I click the “History” subtab of the “My Account” tab I can’t select “Subscriptions” because that option doesn’t appear in that drop-down menu.   The only two options displayed are Basic Search And Download History And it says again “…where you may choose a new default payment method.” •As I said before, I don’t want to choose a new (different) default payment method. How can I neither remove my old debit card from my account ONLY, and keep the new one, without canceling my subscription nor choose another payment method but the same method that I already have? An extra difficulty to do this (or anything else regarding my account) is that I need to know step by step what to do prior to do it, otherwise each and every little mistake sends me to an IE blank page (Expired) (I appreciate PayPal concern about user’s security and privacy, but that doesn’t mean that those “expired pages” are not an extra difficulty) Thank you very much for your help.  David W. Goff   I didn’t try to contact them by phone, because if they don’t want emails, they surely hate calls   …and my time is as valuable as theirs. If someone knows how to do this, I’ll really appreciate his/her directions.  Thank you very much for any help. As an alternative, I’m wandering about simply using checks by mail to buy things by internet.   Do you think that this would be a good alternative or is not “usual enough”   …yet?   Thanks for this tip too to anyone who answers.
