Unfortunately, I was scammed out of 1k USD today and I sent my payment through Paypal using FnF. I'm going to give a brief summary of what happened, in case anyone is curious but if not, just skip this bit and on to the next paragraph. I tried to buy a virtual item about a week ago when I saw a listing on eBay for a Roblox item. The seller didn't have any buyer reviews but from my experience, it does not automatically translate to a scammer. In their title, they told buyers to go to the description and enter their discord. In there I saw a #reviews channel that had vouches from back to last year. And the users seemed pretty legitimate enough. After awhile, I decided to attempt to purchase the item from the server owner and I asked for proof that they had the item which seemed to check out too. Although, after a while, they banned me from the server and I was not able to communicate with them anymore. I immediately filed a dispute and called Paypal, and they were quick to calm me down and told me what I should do during that time. So, my question is, how long does it usually take for Paypal to review a case of fraud like this where the communications occurred else where and what I could do to make this more winnable for me? I, unfortunately, did not record the conversation as it was a slow conversation that took place before any purchase attempt was made. Although, I did file a request for data from Discord so I can send it to Paypal for proof. Here's my second question. There's just one problem with the request for data, how is the validity of the proof and connect it to the random email I sent money to? There's also the question of how uploading the data will work as Paypal does not take videos or .rar or .zip files, at least directly. There's also, for some reason, a nuance rule in Discord's data request that they don't keep messages that you or other people have deleted. So, if my data request comes back, and the conversation was deleted due to the scammer who owned the server deleting them off, where does one go from there? Trying to get money back from FnF is generally hard enough but I just wanted to ask the community or anyone who has had experience getting scammed like this, what I can do to make my case in my favor.
