Our PayPal account is used to accept charitable donations. We've used it for many years without a problem. Recently, a donor (scammer?) made a small donation, then told PayPal that it was an unauthorized charge. We were notified of the claim and wrote to the donor (scammer?) to say that we would refund the donation and asked if he had anything to say about the program he donated to of which we should be aware. This is important information to us as we are in very close communication with our grantees but still may be surprised by a problem. The email address was a phony address and I became concerned that this may be either a scammer or a troublemaker. PayPal didn't tell us how they were able to communicate with this dude and, in fact, I don't think they did. Nor did they refund the donation. So the donor/scammer charged it back through his credit card. End of story. I am left with the idea that this was the first step of a scam and that it did not (or has not yet) worked. Anybody have this experience?
