3 weeks later and my account is still limited. The law firm sent them the release two weeks ago and Paypal keeps telling me that it was not received. The law firm received a confirmation email back from Paypal that it was received. They also sent me a copy of the release that was sent. Last Friday I was asked by the Paypal rep to send them a copy of the release. They gave me a link to upload documents and I sent it. Yesterday, I called for the 5th time as the account is still limited and was told that the release had to come from the law firm and not from me. I contacted the law firm again today and they sent it again. They copied me on the notification to Paypal. Every rep that I have spoken to just gives the "I'm sorry that this happened" and "I understand why you are upset" speech. None of them will actually do anything to resolve the problem that they created. The release from the law firm says to call if there are any questions. I asked the reps if they would please call them as this has been going on for weeks. They can't do that. At this point, I only want my account limitation to be removed so I can close my Paypal credit account and then close my Paypal account. I can't do either until the limitation is removed. 24 years of being with Paypal and I am done. This is by far the WORST customer service that I have ever experienced. I asked one of the bozos if they received a restraining order against John [removed], would they limit every John [removed] that has a Paypal account. He actually said "yes". The law firm sent over a restraining order for a name that wasn't even mine. Different middle initial and different spelling of the last name and Paypal limited my account and even though they made the mistake, they are refusing to fix it. I am glad that I didn't have any money tied up in the account that they would have frozen. I understand now why there was a class action suit against Paypal for limiting people's accounts and taking their money without reimbursing it. Paypal may be convenient for you, but you should be prepared to pay a steep price for that convenience. ... View more

I finally heard from a paralegal from the law firm who confirmed that the name of the defendant was similar to mine but is not me. (yeah, no **bleep**). She said that this is the second one that she has had to correct recently. She asked that I send her proof of who I am and she would contact PayPal to tell them to remove the restriction. I sent her a copy of my driver's license so hopefully that will be enough. I am still closing my PayPal account though. They should have done something to confirm that they were restricting the correct account or did something to help me when I contacted them. 24 years of being a member and this is the type of service that you receive. ... My Paypal account is in limited status and I can't make any purchases. I called support and was sent an email with the reason. The rep would not tell me anything. Apparently, there is a restraining order that was sent regarding a lawsuit that I am not party to and have no idea what it is about. The case file was in the email and I was able to look at in using the NY court system site. The Defendant's lawyer has a name that is similar to mine. The middle initial is different and the last name is different by one letter. Looks like they sent this order for the wrong person. There was a phone number for the law office who sent the order, but of course, they won't return my calls or emails. I called Paypal again to explain that they limited the wrong account and I was told that there was nothing they could do, I had to speak to the law office. It didn't matter to the rep that the law office won't return my calls. So Paypal authorized an account limitation for the wrong person based on incorrect info from the law office and yet they take no responsibility for this and won't help in any way to get it resolved. How difficult would it be for them to contact the law office to verify that they limited the wrong account. This can be done simply by verifying the name. I am going to keep pushing to get this resolved and then I will cancel my PayPal account. If this is how they treat their customers, what is he point in continuing to use them? I have been a PayPal customer since 1999. I have never had an issue. I use it only for purchases. ... View more
