I made two federal income tax estimated payments. Both were substantial amounts. After the transactions, I got the following text, "[Paypal] Did you pay $xxx USD to Link2Gov Corp on [date]? Reply 1 if yes or 2 if no. [Reply Needed]". I replied with "1" and received this response, "We're sorry, you can't send or request money by text anymore. Download the PayPal app or log in at PayPal.com instead. Thanks!" I got that text three times, replied three times, and got the same response three times. Shortly after the third time, I got an email with the subject line "You can no longer use PayPal. {Ref ID xxxx)", that said "After a review, we decided to permanently limit your account as we found potential risk associated with it." Granted, the two payments were larger than my usual transactions, but PayPal limited my account without warning. I'm not sure why they texted me 3 times when I wasn't trying to send or request money by text. Multiple times I answered the text and confirmed that I did make the payment. If making income tax payments is discouraged, I'll simply stop using PayPal as a payment method. No big deal. But the IRS website lists PayPal as an accepted form of payment with Pay1040. I'll pay another way from now on if this is such an issue.
