Here in Canada, unlike everywhere else that has available and inexpensive payment plans, Canadians are still being required to pay a premium for the same service that others only have to pay nickels and dimes to keep their service. The only reason I could see that requires you to use a cell phone is because these days most payment plans and purchases require a credit card. It is the only reason why I think PayPal would require a cell phone for authentication is to check if you have a viable credit card number. If that is so, why would PayPal require you to have a credit card, when you can link PayPal to your bank account as a legitimate online basis? Unless of course, they don't trust people to have the necessary funds in their account for their processing fees. If that is the case, the PayPal should be up front with wanting people to have cell phones and not be shady. ... View more

Still though, if banks can use a landline to confirm an account, why can't paypal? ... View more

You're correct. It hasn't been solved because PayPal still requires you to submit a mobile phone number in order to access your account. What, they can't call you during normal business hours the same way banks do to confirm an account? ... View more

When I was working, having a cellphone was a necessity. After 12 years of using my cell for everything to keep track of what went on at a site and personal, I realized I didn't require it anymore. So I stopped using it. One payment I didn't have to make and could use that saved monies for other more enjoyable uses. What is wrong with calling people at home during business hours and leaving a message? I just don't see the point. Another fact. The cellphone these days, with the correct app, is more a leash to the user than they were 12 years ago. ... View more
