Setup an account with privacy dot com. I moved about 10 accounts to them today. The pain is you need one virtual card number for each merchant, but you can easily set those up in their app if you aren’t at your computer. I like to use "scan and go" services using my phone at merchants, so I setup a virtual card at privacy dot com for each vendor. I travel alot and don't like to carry my actual bank card with me in case it gets compromised. I just moved the majority of those "scan and go" merchants over to the new virtual cards. Privacy dot com has virtual cards you can link to your bank account. I'm working on moving all my automatic payments over to them today. The only issue is that the virtual numbers lock to the first merchant that they are used with, so you can't use the same number at multiple merchants. (The free plan allows up to 10 new cards a month, the Pro up to 36 new cards a month, and gives you cash back. It does cost $10/mo tho.) ... View more

I have a Square account but never had a debit card with them. One is on the way now, tho. I used PayPal heavily for the “DMZ” of their debit card using backup funding from my bank account, and the convenience of having multiple cards. I travel alot and if I lose a card or it’s compromised, I’m stuck for days into a new card arrives. I just started using PayPal for invoicing (I don’t do a lot of that as I only have a few clients who I invoice), but I’ll move that to Square too. I think what I’ll do it use a card masking service that draws against my bank account, which I’ve done when I sign up for some trial and don’t want to worry about forgetting I signed up, but that doesn’t solve the physical card issue. ... 100% agree. I only discovered this option was ending when I logged in today to request another card in an employee's name, to make it easier for them to buy needed items when at a jobsite. I love the backup funding option as it's -not- a credit card and I get an email every time it's used. I have two cards for myself, one I keep with my work wallet and another in my purse, which also worked great as if one gets compromised, I don't have to wait a week or two for a replacement card. Adding funds takes WAY too long. I've been stuck doing this 2-3x over the last 10 years as sometimes a gas pump will force it as a debit transaction and then lock the account up as I don't keep cash in my Paypal account. Paying Walmart to put money in my account is ridiculous.  I've been a Paypal member since it was x.com and not the new Twitter name. (Whyyyy Elon?) Guess I'll research other options that will work well for me. I prefer to keep my bank account in a "dmz", the Paypal business debit card was a great buffer. Same problem here.. I just received a payment for an ebay item two days ago and have over $400 in the account, plus I have backup funding. Tried to use it twice today and both times it was declined. I have had this happen a few times before.. Aggravating, and embarassing! ... View more
