UPS double label scam, Seller Protection voided

Buyer places a very high value order, contacts us (seller) at the time of order and insists we only ship UPS. We checked all of the fraud flags, but didn’t look suspicious and PayPal guaranteed seller protection if we prove shipping to the address in the account. We usually ship UPS anyway.   Next day another order for similar high value item comes in, same city, also asking to only ship UPS, different buyer, claims not to know each other. We cancel the second order as it’s too suspicious at this point.   By this point unfortunately the first order had already shipped. We check tracking info - it was delivered and signed for at the correct address. We are still a little worried as due to the second order and strange shipping courier requests, but not obvious how the scam would play out since we now have confirmation of delivery.    8 days later new tracking information starts to appear under this UPS tracking number. Few days later it is delivered half way across the country and, as now expected, buyer opens a PayPal case saying they didn’t receive the item.    We contact UPS. UPS confirms this looks highly fraudulent. Package was dropped off at a random UPS access point 8 days after delivery with the same tracking number but new address label. They provide us with an official letter confirming the package was originally delivered at the correct address.   PayPal conducts their investigation and rules in favour of the buyer (scammer) saying the tracking information is just too unclear. Even though we have an official letter from UPS and all of the evidence pointing to this being a PayPal and UPS scam.     What to do now? Beyond words how astonished we all are that this played out the way it did with PayPal’s Seller Protection. ...
