When you receive a payment from PayPal, you will receive an automatic email to let you know you have been paid. You should also see this payment in the Activity section of your PayPal account.
It is possible that the payment may have gone on hold. For some additional information on payment holds, please see: https://www.paypal.com/smarthelp/article/faq1987.
Your email address must also be confirmed in order to receive a payment to your PayPal account. For steps on confirming your email address, see: https://www.paypal.com/smarthelp/article/faq1485.
Lastly, was your account in a negative balance? If your account has a negative balance and you receive a payment, this payment will go towards recovering your negative balance.
